Rep. Adam Niemerg joins lawsuit to expose corrupt, unconstitutional budget scheme by Springfield Democrats
Dieterich, IL – State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) has joined several of his colleagues in filing a lawsuit challenging the unconstitutional process used by Illinois politicians to push through the state’s record setting $55 billion budget package.
The Illinois Constitution mandates that every bill must be read on three separate days in each chamber, a safeguard designed to ensure transparency, prevent abuse, and protect taxpayers. Democrats ignored these rules to push through a record spending bill in the dead of the night when no one is paying attention.
“Springfield insiders have resorted to taking unrelated bills, gutting them with amendments, and forcing through thousands of pages of last-minute government spending—often just hours before a vote is called,” Niemerg said. “This process is a slap in the face to Illinois taxpayers, who are often fast asleep, preparing for a new day of work while their government recklessly spends their hard-earned tax dollars. The money being spent belongs to the people. We need an open, transparent and fair budget process. What is happening is wrong and this lawsuit is calling the Democrats on their unconstitutional budget process.”
The lawsuit has been filed in the Sangamon County Circuit Court.
