For Release – January 21, 2026
City of Charleston Temporarily Closing Landscape Waste Facility
The City of Charleston will temporarily close the Landscape Waste Facility on West Madison Avenue to the public at the close of business on January 23, 2026. The City will contract with a vendor through a public bid to grind the materials into mulch, which will be available to residents at no charge.
The facility needs to be closed for safety purposes and so no additional materials are deposited after the vendors have measured the pile for their bids. It will remain closed until the vendors are finished with the grinding process and have removed their equipment from the site, until approximately March 1, 2026.
Once the site is reopened, City residents may resume depositing landscape waste only, free of metal and trash. City employees will be on site two Saturdays each month to load mulch for residents beginning on April 11, 2026. Mulch will be available at no charge whether residents load it themselves or on the Saturdays that City employees are available to load it with City equipment.
