MCUSD #2 Welcomes New Mattoon High School Dean of Students and Head Football Coach
(Mattoon, IL — February 10, 2026 ) Mattoon CUSD #2 is pleased to announce the hiring of Chad Augspurger as Mattoon High School Dean of Students and Head Varsity Football Coach for the 2026-27 school year. These appointments follow the announced transition of the current Dean and Head Football Coach Jarad Kimbro, who will move into the Elementary Principal role at Arland D. Williams Elementary School following the upcoming retirement of Michael Shaffer.
Regarding Augspurger’s appointment, Mattoon Superintendent Tim Condron noted, “We are proud to welcome Chad into a key role at Mattoon High School, where he will bring a strong commitment to student development, accountability, and positive school climate. We are confident that Mr. Augspurger’s leadership will positively represent our district, both on and off the field.”
Mr. Augspurger brings more than twenty years of experience as a secondary educator, instructional mentor, and coach. He currently serves at Gibson City–Melvin–Sibley High School (GCMS), where he has taught multiple social studies courses, including AP U.S. History, Civics, and Current Events, while also contributing in a variety of schoolwide roles.
As head varsity football coach at GCMS, Mr. Augspurger compiled a 28–14 record over four seasons and led the program to the IHSA Class 1A State Quarterfinals in each of the past three years. Prior to serving as head coach, he spent seven years as an assistant coach at GCMS and was part of the coaching staff that won back-to-back IHSA Class 2A State Championships during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. His coaching career reflects sustained achievement, program stability, and a strong focus on teamwork and student-athlete development. These qualities align well with the responsibilities of both the Dean of Students position and the direction of the Greenwave football program.
MHS Athletic Director Trent Duckett highlighted the expertise Augspurger brings, noting, “We are excited to bring Chad’s knowledge and accomplishments on the football field to Mattoon. Coach Augspurger will use his vast playoff coaching experience to build character and success within our Mattoon football programs from JFL to Varsity Friday nights.”
Chad’s wife, Molly Augspurger, will also be joining the district as a school social worker beginning the 2026-27 school year. She brings a strong educational background and a clear commitment to student-centered support services. The Augspurgers and their two children are excited to become part of the Mattoon community.
Chad shared, “I am honored to join the Mattoon School District. My family and I are grateful for the opportunity to become part of the Greenwave family, and we look forward to building stronger relationships with students, staff, families, and the wider school community. I am committed to supporting student success, fostering a positive school culture, and leading with integrity.”
Mattoon High School is currently seeking a Head Boys Track Coach and Head Volleyball Coach, both exciting opportunities that carry deep tradition and enthusiasm within Mattoon. The district remains committed to a clear, inclusive, and thoughtful hiring process aligned with district values and dedicated to serving all students.
