If you’ve ever thought about a career in radio, TV, or multimedia, Lake Land College has an event worth putting on your calendar.
The college’s Broadcast Communication Department is hosting an open house on Friday, March 20th from noon to 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided at noon, and the event follows the college’s Laker Visit Day.
This isn’t just a sit-down-and-listen kind of event. Attendees will get hands-on time with professional audio and video equipment and a tour of the college’s very own student-run FM station, WLKL 89.9, The Max Alternative. Additionally, you’ll have a chance to chat with faculty and current students about what the program entails.
Instructor and Director of Broadcast Operations Greg Powers says it’s a great fit whether you’re focused on a broadcasting career or just looking to pick up some solid multimedia skills along the way.
Students in the program can earn an associate degree which can lead straight to a job or transfer to a four-year university. You would also have the option to choose from three different certificate programs. The hands-on experience covers everything from anchoring newscasts and calling live sports to podcasting, digital editing, and working behind the scenes in a TV studio.
To register, head to www.lakelandcollege.edu/visit. For more information, contact Greg Powers at gpowers@lakelandcollege.edu or 217-234-5335.
