A coroner’s jury has ruled the death of a Shelbyville woman a homicide. Initially, investigators did not suspect foul play in the death of Carol Hurley, but autopsy and toxicology tests led a forensic pathologist to suspect she died of “a traumatic means.” Dr. Scott Denton said he found serious head injuries, and that trauma had caused bleeding in the brain. A deep bruising on the neck and burst eye vessels also pointed to a choking attempt. According to testimony, Hurley had epilepsy and used barbiturates, but the injuries did not appear to be the result of seizures. The investigation continues
