(Chicago, IL) — There’s a new push in Springfield to raise the legal smoking age in Illinois to 21. The supporters of what’s being called the Tobacco 21 bill are hoping that this is the year they can get enough votes to raise the legal age for the sale and possession of tobacco products from 18 to 21. The sponsor, Senator Julie Morrison of Deerfield, says it’s been shown that raising the legal tobacco age reduces the rate of smoking in both adults and young people. The bill would also raise the legal age for e-cigarettes to 21.
