Illinois State Police are currently investigating a double fatal traffic crash that occurred in the evening hours of Wednesday, February 7th on Illinois Route 1 at Vermilion County 3870 E Road, just between Rossville and Hoopeston. According to a press release, preliminary details indicate the driver of unit 1 (52 year old Male of IL) was northbound, while the driver of unit 2 (59 year old Female of IL) was southbound. Unit 1 for an unknown reason crossed the center line and struck unit 2 head-on. The driver of unit 1 was pronounced deceased on scene. Unit 2’s driver was air-lifted to an area hospital for life-threatening injuries, where she later succumbed. At this time the names of being withheld pending family notification and the crash remains under investigation.
