Illinois Lawmakers Demand Answers From Reluctant Veterans Home Managers
(Springfield, IL) — Illinois lawmakers are about out of patience with the state agencies looking into the Legionnaires’ outbreaks at the Quincy veterans home. A joint House and Senate panel yesterday demanded answers from the heads of the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs about what has been done and what is being done to protect veterans. But IDPH boss Nirav Shah told lawmakers they’d have to file a FOIA to get some answers. That didn’t sit well with lawmakers who say they don’t have to file that request. One state representative went as far as to accuse Shah of a cover-up.
