(Chicago, IL) — As Governor Rauner prepares his public safety plan, Chicago is seeing a new surge in violence. Murders and shootings in Chicago are down this year compared with last, but in the past week, at least 85 people have been shot and at least nine have died. Rauner says he expects to present his own ideas for public safety improvements soon. He says he’s making progress on those measures and expects to present them in the coming days. Rauner insisted he doesn’t want ideas that are just designed to get headlines like the gun dealer licensing bill that he successfully vetoed.
