(Menlo Park, CA) — Facebook is admitting that it shares some user data with four Chinese electronics companies. “The New York Times” reports that Facebook has had the data-sharing contracts since at least 2010. Among those partnerships is one with Chinese telecom giant Huawei [[ WAH-way ]], which the U.S. government has said is a national security threat because of its links to the Chinese government. The agreements allow the companies to get information about users’ work, education and relationship history. However, Facebook says the data isn’t allowed to be stored on the companies’ servers. Facebook has similar agreements with Amazon, Apple, BlackBerry and Samsung.
