(Undated) — The U.S. Navy is allowing female sailors to sport more hairstyles. New rules now allow women to wear dreadlocks, ponytails and styled buns while in uniform. They will also be allowed to style their hair below the collar of their shirt, as long as the hairstyle isn’t deemed hazardous. Chief of Naval Operations Admiral John Richardson says the move comes after a team of six female sailors were enlisted to help form new grooming standards. These standards were established based on feedback from the sailors’ peers. The move also comes after the Congressional Black Caucus complained that the old rules were offensive to black women in the military.
