According to the Mattoon Police, MPD arrested Maxwell P. Rosa, 27 years of age of Terre Haute, IN, for the offense of Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer. The arrest occurred on 07/21/2018 at 3:35pm in the 2300 block of Commercial Ave in Mattoon. The charge alleges that on 07/21/2018, Mattoon Police responded to the 2200 block of Western Ave in Mattoon, to assist the Charleston Police Department in the apprehension of a theft suspect they knew to be Mr. Rosa. Upon police arrival, and while making contact with Mr. Rosa, Mr. Rosa allegedly fled on foot from police, however was stopped approximately 5 blocks later and was arrested. Mr. Rosa was taken to the Coles County Jail. While still in jail, Mr. Rosa was also later charged on 07/23/18 at 8:45am, with three counts of Burglary. These three counts allege Mr. Rosa entered Walmart in Mattoon on July 2nd, 4th, and 6th, and stole over $500 worth of items from Walmart between those dates. Mr. Rosa remained at the Coles County Jail.
