(Washington, DC) — The FDA is approving the first generic competitor for EpiPen which could help lower the price of the medicine for life-threatening allergic reactions. The new generic version of epinephrine will be manufactured by Israeli company Teva Pharmaceuticals. Mylan, the maker of the EpiPen, introduced its own generic version two years ago for 300-bucks for a two-pack, which is roughly half the price of its regular EpiPen. Mylan took plenty of heat after it became known the price of the emergency allergy drug rose over 400 percent over a decade. The newly approved generic could run much less.
