Senator John McCain To Discontinue Cancer Treatment
(Phoenix, AZ) — Arizona Senator John McCain says he’s discontinuing his treatment for cancer. Last summer, the Republican revealed he was being treated for an aggressive cancerous tumor affecting his brain. He began treatment in July 2017 and has been absent from Washington since December. His family said McCain has surpassed expectations for his survival in the years since, but the disease is continuing to progress and he is choosing to stop pursuing treatment. The McCains said they are thankful for all of the support and kindness outpouring in for the Senator.
“In the year since, John has surpassed expectations for his survival. But the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict. With his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment. Our family is immensely grateful for the support and kindness of all his caregivers over the last year, and for the continuing outpouring of concern and affection from John’s many friends and associates, and the many thousands of people who are keeping him in their prayers. God bless and thank you all.”
