North Carolina is getting ready for Florence. Forecasters say the tropical storm churning out in the Atlantic could be a major hurricane by the time it reaches the East Coast next week. Computer models predict landfall in North Carolina. Friday night, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper declared a state of emergency and called on residents to get ready for Florence. In a news release, the governor made a special plea to farmers, saying while it’s still too early to know the storm’s path, we have to be prepared. Cooper said during harvest, time is of the essence, and action today can avoid losses due to Florence. The tropical storm is currently brewing 900 miles east of Bermuda and forecasters say it will pick up strength as it heads west.
