According to 24/7 News Source, on a party line vote, the Illinois Senate today voted to override Governor Rauner’s veto of a bill to restore funding for tuition grants for low-income college students. Rauner vetoed the measure because he says it lacks a funding source. He suggests another plan that would allow him to change government purchasing rules to generate savings that could be used for the so-called MAP grants. The Senate override sends the funding bill to the Illinois House where an override is politically more difficult.
