Usually in late December it’s okay to issue a reminder about ice fishing safety. But a lack of ice is making this year’s warning a bit more theoretical. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is nonetheless reminding fishermen to be safe when and if they get out on the ice this winter. The biggest safety tip is to stay off the ice until there is four inches of ice that can support you and your gear.
