Illinois Prison Leaders Okay Transfer For Trans Inmate
(Springfield, IL) — Illinois is about to send its first transgender inmate to a women’s prison. Lawyers for 27-year-old Deon “Strawberry” Hampton yesterday said the state approved a transfer that’d move Hampton from a men’s prison to a women’s facility. Hampton’s legal team has been asking for the transfer for years, and even filed a lawsuit to make it happen. There’s no word when Hampton will be sent to the women’s prison in Lincoln.
