Some homeless in the city are spending their days and nights hanging out on the steps of Federal Hall. The partial government shutdown means there are no security guards to chase them away from national memorial on Wall Street. George Washington took his oath of office as the nation’s first president at Federal Hall. Today there are cardboard boxes being used as shelters for some homeless men. Federal Hall is run by the National Park Service, who has furloughed some of their employees since the partial government shutdown began on December 22nd. Grant’s Tomb and the Hamilton Grange also remain unstaffed amid the shutdown .
