Government Shutdown Hits Day 17, 3rd Longest Ever
(Undated) — The partial government shutdown is now the third-longest ever. Today is day 17 of the shutdown that began December 22nd. President Trump continues to insist on more than five-billion dollars for a wall on the southern border. Democratic leaders insist on legislation to re-open the government before they’ll talk about money for a barrier on the border. Acting White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney said in an interview broadcast yesterday that Trump is now willing to compromise by replacing the concrete wall with some sort of steel fence. Meanwhile, 800-thousand federal workers remain at home on furlough or are working without pay.
