Suspect In Closs Kidnapping To Appear In Court Today
(Barron County, WI) — The suspect in the kidnapping of a Wisconsin teenager and the murder of her parents is due to make his initial court appearance today. Jake Patterson will be charged with two counts of homicide and one count of kidnapping. Police say Patterson will not appear in court in-person, but will be there through a video monitor from jail. His alleged victim, 13-year-old Jayme Closs, is said to be doing well considering the circumstances and has been reunited with a family member. Closs had been missing since her parents were found murdered in October.
Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says police have recovered a shotgun that’s consistent with the crime scene at the Closs home. The sheriff added that Patterson took steps to minimize the forensic evidence he’d leave behind in the crime. Fitzgerald said police are still looking into the motive behind the murders and kidnapping.
