Heat Wave Kills Australian Bats
(Undated) — Researchers say a heat wave in November killed an entire third of one Australian bat species. Over the course of November 26th and 27th, temperatures in some part of the country topped 107 degrees. It was too much for the spectacled flying fox population, leaving around 23-thousand dead. People reported seeing the bats falling from trees into yards and swimming pools. The species is only found in the northern part of Queensland, where it helps pollinate native trees.
