Wine Sales Up But A Slowdown Looms
(Sacramento, CA) — U.S. wine sales are still up, but the industry is bracing for a slowdown. Preliminary data released yesterday at the Unified Wine and Grape Symposium in Sacramento show total wine shipments increased one-point-two-percent nationwide last year, but analysts predict negative growth in 2019 for the first time in 25-years. They partially blame increasing competition from new types of spirits, craft beers, hard seltzers, kombucha and cannabis-infused drinks. However, a Neilson analyst tells the Press Democrat almost half of all wine drinkers and two-thirds of millennials say they’re trying to cut back on their overall booze consumption.
