Mattoon Library to Host Art in Literature Session
MATTOON – An Art in Literature session led by art instructor Jamie Willis for children ages 6 to 9 will be offered Friday at the Mattoon Public Library, 1600 Charleston Avenue.
The activity is set for 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. in the second floor program room. Children will listen to the featured book, Tar Beach by Faith Ringgold and then create art inspired by the book.
Spots are limited to the first 15 to sign up.
“Jamie led a multi-day program for children in August that was well received,” said library director Carl Walworth. “She is a wonderful teacher and artist. This session is similar to the one in August in that it utilizes a piece of children’s literature to spark ideas that lead to a piece of artwork, allowing children to use their imagination in creative ways. Typically these sessions fill up quickly so interested parents should register their children right away.”
Registration is online at http://mattoonlibrary.evanced.info/signup/EventDetails?EventId=9825&backTo=Calendar&startDate=2019/02/08 or by calling or stopping by the library.
