U Of I Student Pitches World War One Soldier As New Mascot
(Urbana, IL) — Goodbye Chief, hello doughboy. One University of Illinois student is suggesting the school adopt a World War One soldier as its new mascot. Mike Skibski says Memorial Stadium was dedicated to remember those who died in the Great War, and thinks it would be an easy transition for the school. But talk of a new mascot at the U of I has been anything but easy since the school dropped The Chief back in 2007.
