Bitter Cold Bearing Down On 220-Million Americans
(Undated) — More than two out of three Americans will wake up to freezing and sub-freezing temperatures in the morning. Forecasters say highs today and Wednesday will be 15 to 30 degrees below average for most of the U.S. east of the Rocky Mountains. The National Weather Service says that means some 220-million Americans will be shivering in record, bitter cold temperatures. Dozens of places from Washington state to Texas hit record lows yesterday. Elk Park, Montana fell to 46 below zero, making Monday the coldest March day ever in Montana.
The intense cold means heavy snow that fell in the Northeast will stay on the ground at least into midweek. Ten inches of snow fell on Boston while other parts of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island got as much as 16 inches.
