Study: Fiat-Chrysler Layoffs Could Seriously Hurt Rockford-Area Economy
(DeKalb, IL) — The layoffs at the Fiat-Chrysler plant near Rockford could cost the area 400 million-dollars this year. A new study from Northern Illinois University points to the economic impact of the decision to cut 13 hundred jobs at the Belvidere plant. Researchers say those layoffs could lead to another 23 hundred layoffs at suppliers and other businesses in and around Rockford. The NIU team says they based their study off the impact of the last round of layoffs at the plant back in 2006.
