The Charleston Alley Theatre kicks off its 29th Season with The Graduate
The Charleston Alley Theatre (CAT) is opening its 29th season with The Graduate produced by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc. The Graduate is adapted by Terry Johnson from the novel by Charles Webb and screenplay by Calder Willingham and Buck Henry by special arrangement with StudioCanal.
The play is being directed by CAT veteran D. Craig Banyai and will feature the talents of D. Craig Banyai, along with regulars Demetrius Johnson, Deb Murphy, Thomas MacMullen, Jacquelyn Armstrong, Alyssa Hilbert and Sarah Rundles. This show will also be the debut of CAT newcomer, Michelle Geer, in the iconic role of the seductress, Mrs. Robinson. The show will also feature live music by the CAT’s house band, Chat Noir.
The show will run March 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd at 7:00pm with matinees on March 17th and 24th at 2pm. All performances will be at the CAT.
The play tells the story of Benjamin Braddock (Johnson), a young man who has just graduated from college and returned to his parents’ home. He is hounded by well-meaning friends and family to make a decision as to what to do with his life, a decision he finds himself not yet ready to make. Benjamin soon finds comfort in an affair with a much older friend of his parents, the feisty and seductive Mrs. Robinson. However, he soon finds himself in a further complicated situation when he falls in love with Mrs. Robinson’s young daughter, Elaine (Armstrong).
General admission for The Graduate will be $10.00 at the door or by reservation by calling 217-345-2287 and leaving a message. Parental discretion is advised due to mature themes.
The Charleston Alley Theatre is handicapped accessible. Free or reduced-price tickets are available for those financially unable to pay. Children must be accompanied by adults.
