Heart Attacks Spike After DST
(Undated) — More people will have heart attacks today. Every Monday after Daylight Saving Time goes into effect, there’s around a 24 percent jump in heart attack cases reported at hospitals. Researchers say it’s likely an effect of losing an hour of sleep when the clocks are set forward the night before. Just an hour lost can have a detrimental effect. In contrast, there’s a 21-percent drop in reported heart attacks after the clocks go back in the fall. The data is published in The BMJ.
