(Chicago, IL) — President Trump says the FBI and the Justice Department are going to review what he calls “the outrageous Jussie Smollett case in Chicago.” He tweeted this morning that it’s been “an embarrassment to our nation.” Also this morning, his lawyer, Tina Glandian, told NBC’s Today show she’s not worried about an investigation.
Cook County authorities dismissed all 16 counts related to lying to police this week after Smollett performed community service and forfeited his ten-thousand dollar bond. He was accused of staging a racist and homophobic attack against himself in January, blaming it on two men wearing MAGA hats. Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx on Wednesday defended her decision to dismiss the charges. She said it’s not uncommon to drop charges in exchange for restitution and community service in felony cases like this one.
