Bill Would Start College Savings Accounts For All Illinois Newborns
(Springfield, IL) — The Illinois House is proposing a measure that would automatically start a college savings account for every child born or adopted in Illinois. The bill passed yesterday despite strong opposition from Republicans. Opponents say the administrative costs associated with the bill are too high, and that the measure does nothing for blue-collar working-class students or those in impoverished communities.
