One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash involving an off-duty Edgar County Sheriff’s deputy. According to the Illinois State Police, a 56-year-old Kansas woman was westbound on Route 16 when she made a left turn, failing to yield right-of-way to an SUV driven by the deputy, a 41-year-old Paris man. His vehicle struck the woman’s truck on the passenger side causing it to leave the roadway and come to a rest in the ditch. The woman was charged with DUI (alcohol) and failing to yield. The deputy was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
