A Mattoon man was taken into custody yesterday on charges of resisting/obstructing a police officer, and aggravated battery of a police officer. According to the Mattoon Police Department, officers were called to assist Coles County Probation officers in serving an arrest warrant for 47-year-old Jose A. Garcia. Upon arrival, police approached Garcia, at which time he punched an officer in the head, and then proceeded to resist arrest. Garcia was eventually detained, and taken to the Coles County Jail.
