A Columbus, Kansas man faces multiple charges following a crash on I-70 Sunday night. According to the Illinois State Police, 29-year-old James Smith lost control of his vehicle at mile post 80 in Effingham County. The vehicle cross over the center line divide into lane 2, onto the shoulder, and then down into a ditch before coming to a rest. Smith is charged with leaving the scene/failure to report an accident involving injury, DUI alcohol, improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, possession of open alcohol by driver, and failure to wear a seat belt. A passenger, 29-year-old Terrence Miller, was wanted on a warrant. Another passenger, 35-year-old Nicole Howland, was transported to the hospital with injuries.
