Mississippi River Flooding Could Cause Huge Gulf Of Mexico Dead Zone
(New Orleans, LA) — The record floods that swamped towns up and down the Mississippi River could cause a new problem in the Gulf Of Mexico. Forecasters expect this year’s floods to lead to a huge dead zone in the gulf later this summer. Dead zones are not uncommon, but because of the amount of water rushing downstream, and the amount of nutrients in that water, the dead zone will be much larger this year. Forecasters are expecting the gulf dead zone to stretch from Florida to Texas.
