Illinois Gas Tax Increases Today

(Springfield, IL) — It now costs more to drive in Illinois. The state’s gas tax doubles today, up to 38-cents per-gallon. The new law that raises the cost of license plates also takes effect today. Both the gas tax and the new registration costs are being earmarked to pay for a 45-billion-dollar construction program in the state. Governor Pritzker signed that law on Friday.
