Judge Rules On Request To Delay Christensen Sentencing
(Peoria, IL) — A request to delay the sentencing of Brendt Christensen, the man convicted of killing a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois, is being denied. Defense attorneys claimed on Tuesday that prosecutors at the last second turned over a high number of victim impact videos, including some of the victim, Yingying Zhang, and that it would take weeks to translate and transcribe the videos, so they asked for the sentence delay, according to the Champaign News-Gazette. Federal judge James Shadid issued a ruling on Wednesday ordering prosecutors to turn over specific clips the government plans on playing at the sentencing and to have them transcribed, according to the newspaper. The sentencing is set to start on Monday and Christensen could receive the death penalty.
