Last Downstate Governor Scolds Secessionist Legislators
(Champaign, IL) — The last downstate governor of Illinois is scolding secessionist legislators in Springfield. Former Republican governor Jim Edgar said yesterday that many of the far-right conservative lawmakers calling for a downstate divorce from Chicago are inexperienced and lack accomplishment. He called for voters to send competent people to Springfield. Edgar was a two-term governor who served from 1991 to 1999 and left office with high approval ratings.
