The Arcola Police Department says the community is experiencing an increase in counterfeit money being used. While most are $100 bills, they are now seeing smaller fake bills, including $5, $10 and $20. The currency can be identified by the red Chinese symbols on the face of the bill. In addition, the top left corner of the bill will be missing. The department says people who try to pass these bills tend to crumble them up and use an eraser in an attempt to make them appear older. They encourage business owners to be vigilant, and if you come across such bills, to please contact them immediately.
