UI Football Center Donor Has Ties to Opiod Crisis
(Champaign, IL) — A pair of donors to the University of Illinois football performance center has ties to the nation’s ongoing opioid crisis. Dale and Chris Smith previously owned one of the largest drug wholesale companies in the country. Newly-released data from the DEA shows the company distributed more than two-billion opioid pills from 2006 to 2012. The University responded to criticism by saying their relationship with the family remains strong.
