Colt Firearms Announces It Will Cease Production and Sales Of AR-15 Rifles To Civilians
(West Hartford, CT) — Colt Firearms is ending its production and sales of AR-15 rifles to civilians. The company said it would continue to make them and sell them to the military and police. In a statement released today, the company says it believes there is an adequate supply for modern sporting rifles for the foreseeable future. It said that contracts to supply the military and police are absorbing all of Colt’s manufacturing capacity. It said in the statement that it remains committed to the Second Amendment and the consumer market.
