One person was air-lifted to Deaconess Hospital following a crash on the Dieterich Blacktop last night, Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Illinois State Police say a vehicle driven by 87-year-old Alvin Austin, of Mason was northbound when he failed to reduce speed and struck 42-year-old Brandy McKinnies, of Mount Vernon, who was working in a construction zone. Austin was ticketed for improper passing of an authorized emergency vehicle causing injury, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and improper passing on the right.
