Gertie Sees Shadow, Six More Weeks Of Winter Expected
(Hanna City, IL) — Central Illinois’ Gertie the groundhog is predicting six more weeks of winter. Gertie saw her shadow yesterday, meaning more cold weather to come. Her handler says she is 50-percent more accurate than the more famous Punxsutawney Phil, who did not see his shadow. Gertie missed the mark with her prediction that the 49ers would defeat the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Wildlife Prairie Park in Hanna City has been celebrating Groundhog Day with Gertie since 1993.
