Lincoln Log Cabin Foundation Annual Dinner Feb. 7
LERNA, Ill. – The Lincoln Log Cabin Foundation’s annual fundraising dinner to support the educational and interpretive programming at Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site in Coles Co. is Friday, February 7 at 6:00 p.m. at the Unique Suites Hotel in Charleston, Illinois.
Join other supporters in celebrating another exciting year at Lincoln Log Cabin at the dinner. The evening will feature storyteller and actor Marlene Rivero as Elizabeth Keckly. Primarily remembered today as the former slave who became a seamstress, friend, and confidante of First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln, Keckly was that and much more. She was a highly accomplished, multi-dimensional person with a wide range of experience and a strong sense of self-reliance. This is the life that Rivero will bring to the stage, offering the audience a glimpse into the past with a story deserving of our attention.
Prizes and a silent auction will also be offered at the dinner. Reservations are required. A table for eight may be reserved for $420, or individual tickets are $60. Reservation forms are available now at the Lincoln Log Cabin Visitor Center. Reservations may also be made online at https://lincolnlogcabin.z2systems.com/np/clients/lincolnlogcabin/eventRegistration.jsp?event=1&
Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site, part of the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area, preserves the 19th century home of Thomas and Sarah Bush Lincoln, father and stepmother of the 16th president. While Abraham Lincoln was a lawyer living in Springfield by the time his parents moved here, his burgeoning law practice often brought him to Charleston and the farm, especially during the 1840s. Abraham Lincoln also owned a portion of the farm which he deeded back to his father and step-mother for their use during their lifetime.
Today, Lincoln Log Cabin showcases a working living history farm that is owned by the State of Illinois managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Division of Historic Sites. The site offers numerous educational programs and activities throughout the year designed to broaden visitors’ understanding both of life in the mid-19th century and of Lincoln’s family ties and his legal practice in the community. Popular programs made possible through the generous support of donors and the foundation include 5th grade education programs and Summer Day Camps.
The site is eight miles south of Charleston and is open Wednesday through Sunday for free public tours.
