Advocates Rally To Eliminate Cash Bail
(Springfield, IL) — Criminal justice reform advocates want to eliminate cash bail. A group rallied yesterday at the statehouse hoping to make Illinois one of the few states to get rid of cash bail in all or most criminal cases. The campaign coordinator for the Coalition to End Money Bond calls it “unconscionable” that people are being held in custody because they can’t afford their bail. Governor J.B. Pritzker endorsed the idea in his State of the State speech in January.
