Trump Will Reportedly Activate Stafford Act In Emergency Declaration
(Washington, DC) — President Trump is expected to activate the Stafford Act when he declares a national emergency on the coronavirus today. The law authorizes FEMA to coordinate disaster relief efforts, including the distribution of emergency funds to local and state governments. Forty deaths in the U.S. have been attributed to the coronavirus. There are roughly 17-hundred confirmed cases of coronavirus, but U.S. health officials warn that the number could climb much higher as more test kits become available. Trump will make an emergency declaration during a news conference today.
