UPDATED: Dow Drops Nearly 3,000, Nasdaq Suffers Worst Day Ever
(New York, NY) — Wall Street is reeling after stocks suffered their worst day since the Black Monday market crash in 1987. The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 2,997 points to close at 20-188 — its biggest one-day point decline ever. The S&P 500 lost 324 points to close at 23-86. The Nasdaq dropped 970 points to end the session at 69-04, for its largest percentage drop in history.
Markets extended deep losses after President Trump said the economy may be headed for recession and the coronavirus outbreak could last until August. Trading was halted for 15 minutes at the open after the S&P 500 dropped seven percent. All three major indexes were down 12 percent or more at the closing bell.
