(Undated) — Lionel Richie says it may be time for a new version of the charity classic “We are the World” in order to raise money to fight the coronavirus. The American Idol judge, who co-wrote the single with Michael Jackson, feels the pandemic has made the meaning “clear” once again. The original, released in 1985, raised more than 63-million-dollars in humanitarian aid for Africa.
