Coronavirus Closures Yield Clean Air In So Cal
(Diamond Bar, CA) — The sky is bluer and the air over Southern California is cleaner than it’s been in years, thanks to the stay-at-home order issued by Governor Gavin Newsom in a bid to slow the spread of coronavirus. Empty freeways and recent rainy weather get much of the credit. But, a top executive with the South Coast Air Quality Management District also tells the “L.A. Daily News” that shipping is down at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, leaving fewer diesel fuel-burning ships in the water and fewer smog-spewing trucks on the road. In addition, AQMD Deputy Executive Officer Philip Fine says there are a lot fewer jetliners in the sky and many construction projects are on hold.
