Dems Postpone Convention Due To Coronavirus Outbreak
(Milwaukee, WI) — The Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee is being postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak. DNC CEO Joe Solmones says the event will now take place during the week of August 17th. The Convention was originally set for July 13th through the 17th. In a statement, Solmones said Democratic leaders felt this was the best decision due to uncertainty about how long the outbreak will last. The Republican National Convention is still set for Charlotte, North Carolina from August 24th to the 27th.
The Democratic Party move came after former VP Joe Biden said he didn’t think it would be possible to hold the convention in mid-July. Biden is the party’s frontrunner in the presidential race. Postponing a political convention presents huge logistical challenges, including re-booking hotel rooms and rescheduling airline flights. The list of convention attendees includes top party leaders — including lawmakers and governors — delegates, vendors and a massive media presence.
